Most of you know that I run Champions Sports a baseball school in Nicholasville, KY about 4 miles south of Lexington. However most of you don't know that Champions owns a mobile golf simulator that we rent/lease for businesses or individuals to have for parties or other events so that people can play virtual golf basically anywhere. It is really a fun set up. Companies can have it set up for parties or other events so that their employees and guests can shoot a round of golf or have a closest to the pin competition or a longest drive competition. Its really pretty nice. However we had leased it to a company in San Diego for the past year and you might remember Tammy's Facebook posts about the trip. Well that lease deal was up and I had to go get that sucker this past week.
On Tuesday morning Jordan Gates (Champions guy and good friend) and I caught a flight in Cincinnati to San Diego. Taxied to the mobile golf simulator and started driving. Left San Diego about 5 pm on Tuesday afternoon (Pacific Time) and drove to Buckeye, AZ. Just west of Phoenix. On Wednesday we drove from Phoenix to Shamrock, TX. On Thursday we drove to Joplin, MO. We should have made it a bit further but we got a flat tire and that ate up about 4 hours of our day. Friday we coasted in to Lexington about 6:30 pm. While driving from Louisville to Lexington last night on 64 I was so excited about getting home. I couldn't wait to see Tammy and Ryan and my dog. Not to sound to cliche, but there truly is no place like home.
If you have never been through the bottom of our states to the southwest you might not be able to appreciate Kentucky's landscape like I do. I never thought I would miss green like I did. I don't think I saw any green grass for 1500 miles. They might have some grass somewhere but they are hiding it from the people on the interstate. I-8 in Southern California and Arizona and I-40 in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas there is NOTHING. Rocks and cacti were the only things I saw for about a day and a half of driving. Now - Don't get me wrong it was really neat to see but I can't imagine living there. Phoenix was nice and driving through Flagstaff, AZ was different they actually have trees in Flagstaff. After we got into Oklahoma mainly east of OKC going toward Tulsa did we see a significant change in the landscape. The closer we got to Kentucky the more and more I wanted to be home.
Glad to be back in the Bluegrass. Thank you to Jordan Gates who was an excellent co pilot during our trip. Hopefully I am home for a while...I know that Jupiter, FL is on the horizon in October but that's only 14 hours. Ha! Child's play compared to driving to San Diego.
